Card Counting Tips & Best Practices
Cancel Pairs
If you see a Queen (-1) and a 4 (+1) dealt consecutively, they cancel out to 0. This speeds up your counting.
Start Slow
Accuracy is more important than speed. Only increase the speed when you can keep a perfect count at your current level.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is card counting legal?
Yes, card counting is 100% legal in the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia. You are simply using your mental skills to analyze information that is publicly available to all players. However, casinos are private property and reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, including known card counters.
How does the Hi-Lo card counting system work?
The Hi-Lo system is a balanced counting strategy. Low cards (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) are valued at +1. Neutral cards (7, 8, 9) are 0. High cards (10, J, Q, K, A) are -1. You start at 0 and add the value of each card you see. A positive count means the remaining deck is rich in high cards (good for the player).
Do casinos allow card counting?
While legal, casinos dislike card counters because they can gain a mathematical edge over the house. If caught, you may be "backed off" (asked to stop playing blackjack) or banned. Discretion is key to longevity as a counter.
What is running count vs. true count?
The Running Count is the cumulative total you keep in your head. The True Count adjusts for the number of decks remaining. True Count = Running Count รท Decks Remaining. This gives a more accurate measure of your advantage.
